Potter Church (Good Luck, Bayville) Cemetery, Bayville, Ocean County, NJ
Potter Church sits on a property which comprises "Good Luck Cemetery" as well as Bayville Cemtery. Older graves surround
historic Potter Church, the birthplace of Universalism in America, founded and built from 1760-1765.
The markers for these older graves have been photographed and transcribed
for this section of the web site. Many of these gravestones have eroded away to the point that they are either only partially readable or
completely illegible. We have not examined church records or compared our work with that of other transcriptions for purposes of this section.
Rather, we have transcribed the stones to the best of our ability and offer the transcription as well as the photographs for your use.
The grave markers surrounding Potter Church flow directly into "Good Luck" Cemetery. These graves and markers
then flow into Bayville Cemetery. We could have chosen to segregate markers based on the work of prior transcribers but
because the purpose of doing so does not present overwhelming benefits, we have and will continue to include all grave markers
found within the contiguous property.
Our work was initially concerned only with older grave markers but some newer stones have been found among the older ones and we extended
the scope to include some sections made up of more new than old. We do not plan to extend the work into the very newest sections but will continue
to visit the property to photograph sections containing burial markers dating backwards from the year 2000.
This work is not a complete presentation of all burials. No conclusions should be drawn from exclusion or inclusion
of particular burials within this transcription. As usual, we present our work as it is and hope that it provides you some
benefits in your family history research.
