Murders, Suicides, Accidents and Deaths From Natural Causes.

Coroner James M. Meredith during the past year has been kept very busy.   He has held 170 inquests.   Of these deaths 13 were murders, 32 suicides. 70 due to accidents, and 55 bear the generic term of due to natural causes.   In glancicg over the list it is noticeable that a large proportion of the persons were of foreign birth.   Out of the 170 inquests held, 89 were upon persons born in foreign lands.

MURDERS.

James E. Miles, aged 35 years, of unknown nativity; died at Whittier, January 22, from a gunshot wound.

Lois E. Hitchcock, aged 34 years, a native of Illinois, died January 23, at Garden Grove, being murdered by Fritz Anschlag.

Chas. B. Hitchcock, aged 36 years, a native of Illinois, died at Garden Grove, January 23, being murdered by Fritz Anschlag.

Ah Jim, aged 40 years, a native of China, died April 14th, at Anaheim, from injuries received by a hatchet.

Peter Waters, aged 55 or 60 years, a native of Ireland, died May 9, at the County Hospital; was shot by his wife.

Yong Que, alias Sam, aged 42 years, a native of China, died May 13, near the Hugns ranch near Pasadena; was shot by Ah Kim.

Frank Wilson, aged 30 years, nativity unknown, died May 23, at San Juan by the Sea: was shot by A. R. H. Wolff.

William Eavenson, aged 40 years, a native of Pennsylvania, died June 19, at Florence; shot by Erastus Hankins.

Unknown man, aged about 23 years, died July 25, one-half mile east of Los Angeles; was shot in the head by an unknown person.

Pedro Lopez, aged 57 years, a native of California, died October 14, at Yerdugo; shot by David Leivas.

Peter Pagluiso, aged 16 years, a native of Italy, died November 3, at Syracuse canyon above Glendale: shot by unknown persons.

William Stack, aged 47 years, a native of Ireland, died November 7 at San Fernando; internal hemorrhage, caused by force and violence at the hands of William Lansigan.

Mathew Robinson, aged 27 years, a native of New Jersey, died November 22, at Los Angeles; shot by "Little Mac."

SUICIDES.

F. Stewart, aged 45 years, nativity unknown, died January 29 at Los Angeles; morphine.

Sarah E. Best, aged 43 years, a native of Pennsylvania, died February 22 at Los Angeles; cut her throat with a razor.

David Tittle, aged 55 years, a native of Tennessee, died March 6 at Pico Heights; hung himself.

E, Preston, aged 42 years, a native of Scotland, died March 12 at Los Angeles; gunshot wound in the head inflicted by himself.

Thos. H. Cox, aged 35 years, a native of Missouri, died March 23, at Anaheim Jail; hung himself.

Frank Jeffers, aged 28 years, nativity unknown, died April 4, at Los Angeles; cut his throat.

Phila E. Kirkpatrick, aged 27 years, died April 16, at Los Angeles: morphine.

E. T. Olipfsenbagge, aged 60 years, a native of Germany, died April 19, at Los Angeles; shot himself in the head.

Mary Reardon, aged 30 years, a native of Ohio, died May 10, at Los Angeles; drowned herself in reservoir.

George P. Coffey, aged 30 years, nativity unknown, died May 24, at Los Angeles; morphine.

Ah Sing, aged 27 years, a native of China, died May 29, at Los Angeles: knife wounds inflicted by himself.

William A. Smiley, aged 18 years, a native of Louisiana, died June 6, at Los Angeles; poison.

Henry Walter, aged 33 years, a native of Germany, died June 23, at Los Angeles; cut his throat.

Sara R. De Puy, aged 29 years, a native of Michigan, died June 26, at Los Angeles; poison.

Henry Dierksen, aged 44 years, a native of Germany, died June 28, at Fullerton; shot himself.

Olof Mahlberg, aged 33 years, a native of Sweden, died July 1, at Los Angeles; hung himself.

Maria Brain, aged 36 years, a native of England, died July 7, at Alhambra Heights; poisoned herself.

Chas. Jansen, aged 58 years, a native of Germany, died July 25, at Los Angeles; shot himself in the head.

Benjamin Ellison, aged 38 years, a native of Alabama, died July 31, at Los Angeles; opium poisoning.

Henrich Boege, aged 54 years, a native of Germany, died August 3, at San Juan; pistol shot wound in the left side.

Arthur W. Dickens, aged 55 years, a native of England, died August 22, at Los Angeles; shot himself.

John M. Permer, aged 60 years, a native of Ohio, died Seotember 29, at Los Angeles; poisoned himself.

Unknown man, aged about 33 years, died October 14, at the Sackett Place, Norwalk township; shot himself in the head.

Worlstein, alias Edward Edwards, aged 35 years, a native of New Jersey, died October 16, at Los Angeles; shot himself in the head.

W. C. Ackerman. aged 30 years, nativity unknown, died October 18, at Stevenson House, Los Angeles; poisoned himself.

A. Nicholson, aged 60 years, nativity unknown, died October 10, at Los Angeles; cut his throat.

Agrispi Jean Baptiste Cordemano, aged 41 years, a native of Italy, died October 22, above La Crescenta; knife wound in abdomen inflicted by himself.

Unknown man, aged 35 years, nativity unknown, died November 2, at Chapin's Grove, Rosedale; overdose of strychnine.

Fred Carlton, aged 24 years, a native of Denmark, died November 8, at Los Angeles; morphine.

Fritz Anschlag, aged 24 years, a native of Germany, died November 15, at Los Angeles Connty Jail; poison.

Charles Goettnzer, aged 60 years, a native of Germany, died November 23, at Los Angeles; poison.

Susie Erickson, aged 24 years, a native of Norway, died December 7, near Lordsburg; poison.

ACCIDENTS.

Peter Johnson, aged 28 years, a native of Sweden, died December 19, at White Point; drowned.

Bobert Turnbull, aged 41 years, a native of Scotland, died January 19, at Los Angeles; skull was fractured, cause unknown.

John Gibson, aged 55 years, a native of Scotland, died February 1, at County Hospital; was run over by railroad train.

Laura Van Dusen, aged 30 years, a native of Canada, died February 17, at Los Angeles; an overdose of morphine.

Ed T. McCormick, aged 31 years, nativity unknown, died February 25, at Alpine; was run over by train.

Manuel Aguillar, aged 45 years, a native of Mexico, died February 26, at the County Hospital; injuries received in the caving of embankment on City Hall lot.

A. G. Ellis, aged 35 or 40 years, a native of Wisconsin, died March 2, at Los Angeles; overdose of opium.

M. R. Vaile, aged 62 years, a native of New Jersey, died March 5, at Redondo Beach; accidentally drowned.

Manuela Garnez, aged 29 years, a native of California, died April 1, at Los Angeles; carriage ran away and she jumped out, receiving injuries from which she died.

Michael Kirsch, 35 years, a native of Germany, died April 4, at Los Angeles; run over by railroad cars.

An unknown man, aged 35 or 40 years, died April 1st at Long Beach, accidentally drowned.

J. Brooks, aged 26 years, a native of Ohio, died April 3d, at San Fernando tunnel; run over by railroad cars.

J. A. Westerfield, aged 27 years, a native of Kansas, died April 3, at San Fernando tunnel; run over by railroad cars.

M. Vaoney, aged 60 years, a native of Scotland, died May 8, at San Pedro; run over by railroad cars.

Helena L. Blancjoin, aged 25. years, a native of Pennsylvania, died at Los Angeles, May 11; overdose of opium.

A. A. Martin, aged 30 or 35 years, nativity unknown, died June 11, at Santa Ana sidetrack; injured by being caught between a caboose and a box car.

Robt. Irvin Whitmore, aged 17 years, a native of Connecticutt (sic), died June 15; fell from the mast of the ship P. M.Whitmore.

Peter M. Koning, aged 36 years a native of Norway, died June 15, at San Pedro; fell over bluff at San Pedro while drunk.

T. R. Ramsey, aged 22 years, a native of New York, died January 21, at Campbell Station; was struck by a freight train near Campbell Station.

Henry Slotterbeck, aged 51 years, a native of Germany, died at Los Angeles; accidentally shot himself.

Jean Baptiste Colsen, aged 35 or 40 years, a native of Belgium, died June 25, at Los Angeles; drowned in cesspool at Sisters' Hospital.

Jos. E. Frayer, aged 25 years, a native of Iowa, died July 1, in the Verdugo mountains; was accidentally shot by Chas. Haskell.

W. B. Feeff, aged 32 years, nativity unknown, died July 6,at Los Angeles; fell from a roof.

R. Ayers, aged 35 years, nativity unknown, died July 8, near Puente; was run over by a wagon.

David Edwards, aged 62 years, nativity unknown, died July 12, at Wilmington; drowned.

Goorge A. Foroelich, aged 10 years, a native of Illinois, died July 14, at West Lake Park, Los Angeles: drowned.

John F. Butler, aged 46 years, a native of Virginia, died July 16, at Los Angeles; fell from a wagon and was run over.

John Allen, aged 40 years, a native of Ireland, died July 22, at Los Angeles; death caused from wounds from a blunt instrument or was run over by a train.

Patrick McCarty, aged 50 years, a native of Ireland, died August 7, at Los Angeles; burned in fire at 958 Alameda street.

Guy C. Vanderlip, aged 35 years, a native of New York, died August 8, at Los Angeles; killed by lumber falling on him.

Robert Calhoun, aged 32 years, a native of Scotland, died August 10, on Rattlesnake Island; heart disease.

Louise Parker, aged 12 years, a native of California, died August 12, near Anaheim Landing; drowned.

Hermann Bostleman, aged 30 years, a native of Germany, died August 23, at Los Angeles; poisoned himself either accidentally or intentionally.

Elmer Alford, aged 23 years, a native of Kansas, died August 26, at Long Beach; drowned.

Bernhard D. Weyerman, aged 2l years, a native of Kentucky, died August 30, at Los Angeles; was shot by his brother, Arthur Weyerman.

Lem, aged 23 years, a native of California, died September 2, near El Monte; run over by train.

H. McMichaels, aged 23 years, a native of Pennsylvania, died September 9, at San Fernando Tunnel; fell from train and was killed.

Antonio Palmere, aged 28 years, a native of Italy, died September 30, near Brooks Ranch, Los Angeles; accidentally shot himself.
