More Philadelphia Heroes Die For Flag in France;
Lieut. Way Killed Fighting In The Air
Germantown Youth Who Fell Before Boche Guns Was Son of Naval Officer
Five more heroic Philadelphians have answered the final roll call on the battlefront n France, according to information received through official and unofficial sources. Thirteen more of this city's sons are listed as having been wounded in action, two are missing and four are reported to be prisoners in German war camps. One of the Philadelphians who gave his life died fighting for the great cause in the Canadian army.
Lieutenant Pennington Way, of St. David's, a member of the aviation section, reported killed, is said to have met a heroic death while valiantly battling with a squadron of German planes. A message from the War Department announcing his death has just been received by the family. Lieutenant Way was well known in this city, and was socially prominent along the Main Line. His wife, previous to her marriage, was Miss. Eleanor Gosling, of St. Davids.
Lieutenant Way joined the aviation section soon after this country declared war with Germany, was given his commission last fall and saw much service.
Raymond D. D. Wright, East Walnut lane, Germantown, has just been officially notified by the War Department that his brother, Private Preston Wright was killed in action September 2.
Private Wright was the son of Lieutenant Commander R. K. Wright, who is now on duty in the United States navy. He was born in this city, and attended Chestnut Hill Academy and the Germantown High School. Three years ago he removed to Portland, Ore. He enlisted in that city and went to France last fall with the Sunset Division. Private Wright was twenty-four years old.
Alexander Jamison, 2132 Norris street, has been killed in action, according to a telegram received from the Canadian authorities by Mr. Florence Albright, with whom he boarded. Jamison had been in this country thirteen years. He enlisted a year ago at the British recruiting station in this city. He was twenty-eight years old. His parents live in Scotland.
A telegram has been received by Mr. And Mrs. Harry Shettsline, 2226 South Broad street, announcing the death of their son, Corporal William T. Shettsline, who was killed in action on the French front. He is said to have lost his life while on a special mission and was buried near where he fell.
Shettsline was a member of Company F, 108th Field Artillery. He was a graduate of Penn Charter School and was preparing to enter the University of Pennsylvania when he patriotically responded to the call to the colors.
