Indiana Obituaries - 2004 - Victor L. "Sarge" Long

Victor L. "Sarge" Long, Age 72 of Lake Station passed away Thursday, February 5, 2004 at St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, IL. He was born December 26, 1931 in Independence, MO, to the late Cornelius and Thelma (Willoughby) Long and had been an area resident since 1949. He was a Millwright at USS for 33 years, retiring in 1984. Sarge was a decorated Korean War Veteran and was a survivor of the Battle of Pork Chop Hill. He received a Silver Star, Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He is survived by a son, Billy Long of Park Forest, IL; 4 daughters, Bobbie Lamberson and Barbara (Clayton) Hulse, both of Atlanta, GA. Bonnie Long of Park Forest, IL and Brenda Long of TN; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Irene) Long of Highland, IN and a step sister, Linda Long of Portage, IN. Funeral services Tuesday, February 10, 2004, 1p.m. at the Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave., Portage, IN. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Visitation Monday, February 9, 2004 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, (219) 762-3013.
