Obits - NJ - Monmouth - 1887 - William Croxson |
William Croxson, of Freehold, died on Saturday, April 16th, after a short illness.
He was born in Wall township, near Manasquan, in 1819, and resided in
Monmouth county until he was about 25 years of age. He then went to Brooklyn and
pursued his trade of blacksmithing. In 1845 he married Elizabeth Van Mater, of Holmdel,
who died in 1848. In 1850 he went to Marlboro, where he married Patience Hulsart. He
was engaged in blacksmithing and farming there for fourteen years. While at Marlboro his
second wife died. In 1868 he married Mrs. Mary Carhart, of Matawan. Afterward he moved
to Freehold where he lived until his death. He worked at his trade in Freehold until 1879,
and then sold out to S. P. Voorhees, his son-in-law. He leaves a widow and five children,
one of whom is Mrs George W. Truex, of Red Bank.
