On Sunday last Benj. Griggs, sr., of Matawan died from an attack of ?crysipelas? He was 77 years of age. He was born near Freehold, and moved to Matawan in 1827. Mr. Griggs was examiner of the appraiser's department of the New York custom house under two ?admins? [next line not legible] He ?united? with the Matawan Presbyterean church when he was seventeen years of age and for the past forty years he was an elder of the church. the funeral took place yesterday.
