Esek Hartshorne Willaims died at Red Bank on Sunday afternoon at four o'clock, aged 81 years. Mr. Williams was a widower and had lived at French's Central hotel for the past few years. the funeral took place this afternoon at one o'clock from Trinity Episcopal church, and the remains were taken to Rahway for interment. Mr. Williams belonged to one of the oldest families in Monmouth county. His grandfather was of Welsh extraction and settled in Colt's Neck. He had a son and several daughters. The son was Tylee, who married Elizabeth Hartshorne. Eleven children were born of the marriage of whom Esek Hartshorne was the seventh. He was born in 1807. he married a Miss Lippincott. After his marriage he engaged in the mercantile business in Red Bank, down on the old dock that formerly stood just at the foot of the road leading from Front street to the river and joining what is now the residence of John A. Worthley. At that time Sheperd Kollock and Asher S. parker were his clerks. This was in 1833 and shortly afterward Mr. Williams sold out and removed to New York where he engaged in the wholesale trade, but was not successful. Afterward he lived in Rahway and was engaged in New York. Mr. Williams leaves several children, one of whom is the wife of Wm. H. Vredenburgh, of Freehold; another daughter is married and lives in the city, and another daughter is now travelling in Europe. Source: Red Bank Register Wednesday, December 21, 1887
