Joseph Conover, an aged resident of Chapel Hill, died at his residence there on Monday of senile gangrene, from which he had suffered the past two months. He was a widower without children. In his early life he was a carpenter, and was well known as a successful sportsman. He was a man of considerable mean, which was invested in real estate and in various stocks. He had taken one thousand dollars worth of stock in the Red Bank electric light company, and he was also the holder of a large amount of Central-railroad stock.

Death notice lists his age as 89 years.
