Obits - NJ - Monmouth - Joseph Conover |
Joseph Conover, of Little Silver, died last Friday from the result of the injuries
he received ten days previously when he was struck by a locomotive
while crossing the railroad track at Branchport. He was unconcious most of the time
since the accident.
The ninth day a very active delirium set in and he became very violent. he
tore the bandages from his wounds, and fought his attendants whenever they
came near him. A heavy weight had been attached to his broken leg to hold
it in position, but his struglles were so violent that the leg would be pulled
from its place and the broken bone almost ofrced through the flesh. he had
two men for attendants who were skillful as nurses, but they could not keep the
patient quiet.
Mr. Conover's delirium was not due to pain but to a presuure on the brain. This
was caused by a clot of blood which had formed as a result of the rupture of a
blood vessel. Mr. Conover apparently suffered very little pain from the time of the
accident until his death. He was attended by Dr. J. E. Sayre, of Red Bank, who
called Dr. Edward F. Taylor, of Middletown, in consultation with him.
The funeral took place on Monday. Services were held in the Little Silver
Methodist church, and the remains were interred in Fair View cemetery.
Death notice lists his age as 47 years and 3 months.
