Yesterday morning Mrs. Ann Jackson, a widow living at Eatontown, was struck by a locomotive at that place and sustained such injuries that she died a few hours later. She had gone to the store to buy some eggs, and on the way back stepped on the railroad track to chat with Miss Cole, an employee in the hat factory. While there the train for Long Branch came up. The engineer blew the whistle, and Miss Cole stepped off the track, but Mrs. Jackson, who stood with her back to the locomotive, did not see the coming train and was struck by the engine. She was thrown about forty feet. The accident occurred at half past seven o'clock and Mrs. Jackson died three hours later.
