Obits - NJ - Monmouth - Mrs. Maria Gillett Worrell |
Mrs. Maria Gillett Worrell died in Brooklyn on the afternoon of Thursday,
July 5th, of telescoping of the bowels, aged 62 years and 6 months. The funeral
services were held at her late residence on Friday evening. On Saturday
morning the body was brought to Red Bank for interment in the family
plot at Fairview cemetery. Mrs. Worrell was born at Hebron, Conn., in 1825.
She was married in New London in 1856 to the late Wm. H. Worrell. Mr.
and Mrs. Worrell moved to Chicago, where her husband was engaged in the newspaper
business. In 1862 they moved to Red Bank and engaged in the book and stationery
until they were burned out in the July fire of 1881. Afterward they removed to
Paterson and engaged in business, and from there they removed to New London, where
Mr. Worrell died in 1884. Since that time Mrs. Worrell resided in Brooklyn with
her son and only child, Edward H. Worrell. Mrs. Worrell was a woman of
many sterling qualities and her death will bring regret to her many friends in
this vicinity.
