Edward J. Hopping died on Sunday afternoon last at the Hopping homestead,
at Chapel Hill. Mr. Hopping was born near New Monmouth thirty five years
ago. the disease from which he suffered was jaundice. He had suffered from it
but a few weeks, and being a man of large stature and great strength, it was
a surprise to many that his constitution succumbed to the disease. Mr. Hopping
leaves a widow and two children, boys. His father and mother and brother were
with him during his last hours. Mr. Hopping was highly esteemed bu a very
wide circle of friends, and he never made an acquaintance without at the
same time making a friend. Two years ago he was a member of the township
committee and was the township treasurer during his term in office as a committeeman.
In his administration of the township treasury he was most conscientious and
watchful. His funeral took place this afternoon at half-past one o'clock at
his late residence. The interment was in Fairview.
