Mahlon Matlack, who used to live in Middletown township, just across Grover's bridge on the road leading to Leedsville, died at Scranton, Miss. on July 26th. In early life he was a sailor, and for a number of years was captain of a packet vessel sailing between Liverpool and Philadelphia. When he left the sea he settled down on a farm near Red Bank, where he lived for twelve or fifteen years. He sold this farm and went to Nelson, Ky., and a year later he moved to Scranton, Miss., where ??? company with his son, Thomas Matlack, he started a damp black establishment. Afterward he and his son went into the lumber business, in which they continued for two years and up to the time of Mr. Matlack's death. Mr. Matlack was 75 years of age.
