A Woman Killed

Mrs. Caroline Jackson Struck by a Locomotive

Mrs. Caroline Jackson of New York, who was visiting at Mrs. Margaret Berry's at Pine Brook, was killed on Saturday night by the Southern railroad train which goes through that place at six o'clock. She crossed the track directly in front of the locomotive. William Nivison of Barnegat, the engineer of the train, saw her just as she was about to cross the track. He blew the whistle, but she paid no attention to it and continued on her way. The train was too close to her to be stopped, and she was struck and instantly killed. She was cut about the head and hand, and her neck, her back and both arms were broken. Lewis Carney and Charles Green saw the accident. They carried the body to Mrs. Berry's house. An inquest was held on Sunday, and the engineer was exonerated from all blame in the affair. Mrs. Jackson was about 65 years old. She leaves one daughter, who lives in New York. The funeral was held on Monday at Pine Brook. The body was buried in White Ridge cemetery.
