New Jersey Wills - December 1, 1897 - Thomas Clayton
|
Thomas Clayton left all of his property to his wife, Mrs. Hannah Clayton, for life, except a gray horse which he left to his son, Charles D. Clayton, and an organ, which he left to his daughter, Miss Phoebe J. Clayton absolutely. He expressed a wish in the will that his son, Charles D. Clayton, should remain with his mother during her life, and if he does so, the will provides that he is to have the testator's farm and all other property at her death, subject to these payments to his brothers and sisters; Henry M. Clayton, $5; William T. Clayton, $20; Wardell Clayton, $20; Ulysses G. Clayton, $20; Mary M. Clayton, $25, and Phoebe J. Clayton, $25. These payments are to be made within a year after the death of Mrs. Clayton. The will was made in May, 1894, in the presence of Elwood Stothard and Esek A. Gant. Abner P. Gant was appointed executor but he declined to serve and Mrs. Hannah A. Clayton was appointed executrix.
