New Jersey Obituaries - December 1, 1897 - John S. Shaptner
|
John S. Shaptner died of paralysis at the home of Mrs. Benjamin Warne at Matawan on Saturday, November 20th. He was 76 years old. Many years ago Mr. Shaptner invested a considerable sum of money in a large sugar factory in Jersey City. He saw that the concern would prove a failure and he transferred his real estate to his wife with the understanding that she was to make a will in his favor. Before the will was made his wife died and all of the property, except an income of $50 a month, went to Mrs. Shaptner's heirs. Mr. Shaptner was at one time the chief engineer of the New Jersey Central railroad company. He had lived at Matawan for a number of years. He was married twice, but both of his wives are dead.
