New Jersey Obituaries - December 29, 1897 - Capt. Jacob Decker

Capt. Jacob Decker of Keyport died last Thursday morning, after a sickness of five weeks. He was eighty years old. Capt. Decker had lived at Keyport 57 years. He and the late Capt. Peter Metzgar were the first oyster planters at Keyport, having formed a partnership in that business in 1839. He was married to Miss Fannie Butler of Staten Island in 1838, and she with three children survives him. Capt. Decker had been a member of the Keyport Baptist church 55 years. His funeral was held on Sunday afternoon and the burial was in Green Grove cemetery at Keyport.
Per the Death Notice Capt. Decker was aged 80 years and 6 months.
