New Jersey Obituaries - July 7, 1897 - Mrs. Mary Langan

Mrs. Mary Langan, wife of Patrick Langan of Keyport, died on Tuesday of last week, after a long sickness. Mrs. Langan was a sister-in-law of Mrs. George Woods, Sr., of Red Bank. She was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1831. She was married to Mr. Langan in 1849, and three years later they moved to Keyport, where they had since lived. Besides her husband Mrs. Langan leaves ten children. Four of the children are members of Catholic orders. They are Brother John Langan of New York, Rev. James L. Langan of Brooklyn, Francis X. Langan, who is studying for the priesthood, and Sister Mary Vincent Langan of West Virginia. The other children are Joseph B. Langan, George E. Langan, Christopher Langan, Matthew A. Langan, Mrs. Mary C. Donohue and Annie I. Langan. The funeral was held on Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic church at Keyport. A requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. James A. Langan, a son of Mrs. Langan. He was assisted by seven priests. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. William P. Cantwell of Long Branch. The bearers were Alfred Walling, Stephen Arrowsmith, Dr. O. C. Bogardus, William E. Warn, John W. Keough and Francis Hines. The body was buried in the cemetery near the church.
Per the Death Notice Mrs. Langan was aged 66 years.
