Hon. William H. Grant Dead

He Expired at His Home in Middletown Township this Morning

Hon. William Henry Grant died early this morning at his home at Nut Swamp, in Middletown township. He had been sick for a long time, and death was caused by a general breaking down of the system. He was nearly 77 years old.

Mr. Grant's ancestors came to this country in 1793. Early in the present century a large tract of land was bought, much of which is still retained by the family. Mr. Grant had lived on his present farm since 1831, and had increased the acreage by several purchases. His holdings at the time of his death amounted to over 200 acres.

Mr. Grant has been prominent in the development of Middletown township, and had been an important member of the community. He has held many township offices and was elected a member of the state legislature in 1884. He has always been a strong Republican, and has been a very liberal contributor to that party, both in personal services and money.

Mr. Grant was twice married. His first wife was Miss Anna Morford, daughter of Jarrett Morford of Red Bank, who died in 1868. Seven years later he married Mrs. Eliza Jane Watson of New York, who survives him. He also leaves one son, Thomas Henry Grant, who was born to him by his first wife.

Mr. Grant was very much interested in church work. He was an Episcopalian, and for more than thirty years was manager of the church fund of Christ church at Middletown. He was senior warden of Trinity church, Red Bank, and also of Christ church at Middletown.

The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from his late residence.

Per the Death Notice Mr. Grant was aged 76 years and 10 months. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from his late residence.
