New Jersey Obituaries - October 20, 1897 - Capt. William H. Perry

Capt. William H. Perry of Ocean Grove died on Monday of last week, aged 85 years. He had been a sea-faring man for 52 years and for twenty years he was first mate on an East India merchantman. Captain Perry was a grandnephew of Commodore Perry, the Revolutionary hero. During the Rebellion he was placed in command of a fleet of three vessels to replace buoys which were destroyed by the enemy and he took an active part in several battles.
Capt. Perry was married twice, his first wife being an Englishwoman. His second wife and three children survive him.
