Daniel G. Smock, an old resident of Pleasant Valley, in Marlboro township, died last Wednesday night after a long sickness. He was 82 years old and death was due to paralysis and old age. He was first stricken with paralysis about three years ago, and he had been afflicted with returning strokes of the disease at irregular intervals. For sixty days prior to his death he was unconscious, and he was unable to take any nourishment except by artificial means. He died on Wednesday night without regaining consciousness.

He was born on the old Smock homestead in Marlboro township and was the son of the late George G. Smock. He was a brother of Henry Smock, who lives on the homestead, and also of Robert Smock of Matawan. When he was a young man he married Miss Mary Schanck, daughter of the late David Schanck of Marlboro township. She died about twelve years ago. Two children were born to them and they survive him. The children are Mrs. Tunis DuBois and DeWitt Smock, both of whom lived with their father.

The funeral was held on Saturday at half-past one o'clock from the house, and the service was conducted by Rev. Garrett Wyckoff, pastor of the Reformed church at Holmdel, assisted by Rev. Robert B. Fisher, pastor of the Baptist church of the same place. The Holmdel Reformed church choir was present and sang "Lead Kindly Light" and "There is a Wideness to God's Mercy." The pall bearers were Daniel I. Schanck, Eugene Ely, John Stilwagon, William W. Taylor, Robert R. Sutphin and Capt. John Henry Heyer, all of Holmdel. The body was buried in the Holmdel cemetery.
