Killed By A Trolley Car

The Company Censured for Not Providing Fenders on its Cars

Rebecca, the four-year-old daughter of Charles Van Middlesworth of Asbury Park, was struck and killed by a Belmar trolley car on Monday of last week. The child attempted to run across the street in front of the car and she was struck and crushed beneath the wheels. Her left leg was nearly cut from her body and her head was mangled beyond recognition. The coroner's inquest was held on Tuesday afternoon and Morris Loomis, the motorman of the car, was exonerated from blame. The trolley company, however, was censured for not providing fenders for its cars, as it was thought that the accident could have been avoided had the car been provided with fenders.
