Thomas Burrowes Walling died last Saturday week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thaddeus P. Welsh of Keyport. He was 82 years old and had been an invalid for the past five years. He was born in Middletown township, near Leonardville, and was the son of Deborah and Richard Walling. He lived for a time at Red Bank, afterward moved to Keyport, where he entered into a partnership with his brother Richard as carpenters and builders. Later he bought the Walling farm at the Phalanx and lived there for many years. Fifty years ago this month he married Miss Catharine Applegate, who died in February, 1889. Mr. Walling left four children, William A. Walling of the Phalanx; James A. Walling of Elgin, Texas; and Mrs. Thaddeus P. Welch and Miss Catharine A. Walling of Keyport.

When Mr. Walling lived at Red Bank he joined the Red Bank Baptist church and was baptized by Rev. Robert T. Middleditch, who was then pastor of the church. When he moved to the Phalanx he joined the Holmdel Baptist church, of which Rev. W. W. Case was then pastor. Both Mr. Middletcu and Mr. Case, as well as Rev. Robert B. Fisher, the present pastor of the Holmdel Baptist church, took part in the services at the funeral, which was held last Tuesday. The burial was at Green Grove cemetery at Keyport.
