Mangled By The Cars
A Body Found on the Southern Railroad Track
Early on Sunday morning the body of a man was found on the tracks of the Southern railroad, near the coal trestle. The body was horribly cut. Both legs had been cut off at the knee, and the body was covered with cuts and bruises. The man had come from Elizabeth the night before on a coal train. The man had a companion, who said the dead man's name was James Smalley, but a letter was found in his pocket addressed to James Robertson, of Erie street, Elizabeth. Word was sent to Elizabeth, and a man who said he was a brother-in-law of James Robertson came to Red Bank. He saw the body but did not recognize it as that of his relative. The body was buried at Lincroft yesterday.
