New Jersey Obituaries - June 15, 1898 - Mrs. Mary J. (Cross) Swaim

Mrs. Mary J. Swaim died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William H. Hoffmire, on Broad street, last Friday night. She was 84 years old. Mrs. Swaim had been in failing health for the past three years and her death was due to her advanced age. She was taken seriously sick about two weeks before her death and she gradually grew worse until she died. Mrs. Swaim was born at White Plains, N. Y., September 26th, 1813. Her maiden name was Cross. During her girlhood her parents moved to Newark, where she married Ezra B. Swaim in 1834. Mr. Swaim died in 1853 and about fifteen years later Mrs. Swaim moved to Red Bank, since which time she had made her home with Mrs. Hoffmire. She leaves three children, Mrs. Joseph W. Child of Wallace street, Mrs. Hoffmire and Dr. George M. Swaim of Chatham, N. J. The funeral was held at her late home yesterday morning at eleven o'clock. The interment was at Elizabeth. The pall bearers were Dr. George M. Swaim, Joseph W. Child, William H. Hoffmire, William S. Child and Joseph W. Child.
