A Proposed Monument

Ashland council of American Mechanics of Seabright is arranging for a monument to be placed over the grave of Charles L. Walters. Mr. Walters was a member of Ashland council, and at the time of his death he was New Jersey's representative to the national council of the order. His body is now buried at Hightstown, but his widow proposes to remove it to Fair View. The matter of a monument will be brought up at the next meeting of the state council, and it is expected that each member of the order in the state will contribute from ten cents to fifty cents. At ten cents per member the fund will amount to about $3,000. The committee of Ashland council which has the matter in charge consists of P. Hall Packer, C. V. Shropshire and Wolcott Fary. The American Mechanics of Long Branch have appointed J. F. Wilcox, Joseph Sutphen and B. A. VanBrunt as a committee to assist in the work, and the Seabright Daughters of Liberty will take similar action at their meeting on Saturday night.
