New Jersey Obituaries - May 18, 1898 - Mrs. Elizabeth (Tucker) Haynes
|
Mrs. Elizabeth (Tucker) Haynes died of old age and a complication of diseases at Oceanport late Saturday night. She had been sick for some time. Three years ago she broke her leg and from that time until her death she had been almost helpless. She was born at Deal in 1809, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Tucker. Had she lived until October she would have been 89 years old. In 1832 she married William Haynes of Long Island. The couple lived at New York for several years after their marriage, and then moved to Oakhurst. A few years later they moved to Oceanport, where they spent the remainder of their lives. They had four children, two of whom are living. They are Mrs. Sarah J. Wolcott of Eatontown township, and Edward Haynes of Eatontown. The children who died were W. R. Haynes, who lived at Oceanport; and a daughter, who was the first wife of Bloomfield Drummond of Red Bank. The funeral was held this afternoon at two o'clock from the house. The service was conducted by Rev. John Wagg, pastor of the Oceanport Methodist church. The pall bearers were Sylvester Ferry, William Durnell, Louis Riddle, John McCreery, William Aumack and Robert Fay. There were many handsome floral pieces. The body was buried at West Long Branch.
