Hon. Daniel P. VanDorn died at Freehold last Wednesday, aged 78 years. He was stricken with paralysis about a month ago and this disease was the cause of his death. Mr. VanDorn was the son of Catherine Polhemus and William VanDorn and was born on the VanDorn homestead near Marlboro. He received his early education at Matawan and finished his schooling at Lenox, Massachusetts. At the time of his father's death Mr. VanDorn inherited a part of the homestead farm and the remainder of the farm he bought. Mr. VanDorn farmed the place for a number of years and he then moved to Freehold. On September 9th, 1874, he married Anna J. Roche of North Hadley, Mass., and she with one son survives him. He was a member of the Monmouth county agricultural society, and was also one of the projectors of the Freehold and New York railroad, which has since been merged with the New Jersey Central system. In 1854 he was elected to the New Jersey legislature. He had served as a member of the board of freeholders and had held other township offices.
