New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - Daniel Holmes Smock
|
Daniel Holmes Smock, eldest son of ex-Sheriff Rulief P. Smock of Freehold, died at his home on Irving place at Red Bank on Sunday night of anaemia (sic). He was 47 years old and had been sick about two years. Mr. Smock was born on the Smock homestead at Holmdel, on the road leading from Brookdale farm to Morrisville. He was married on March 13th, 1877, to Mary L. Morris, daughter of Forman Morris of Red Bank. Four children were born to them. The eldest son, Harry, is now nineteen years old and is employed as a clerk in Schroeder's drug store. The other three children are William, Madge and Ensley. Mr. Smock lived on the homestead place until about four years ago, when he accepted a position as manager of Jonathan H. Holmes's place and he moved to the farmhouse on the farm. About two years later his health failed, and last spring he moved to Red Bank. The funeral was held to-day at half-past twelve o'clock at the house and at half-past two o'clock at the Holmdel Reformed church. The service was conducted by Rev. Garrett Wyckoff. The pall bearers were Eugene Ely, John C. Ely, P. VanDorn Smock, F. C. Dubois, Ensley Morris and Luther Schanck.
