New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - Mrs. Sarah (Knowlon) Matthews

Mrs. Sarah (Knowlon) Matthews, widow of Ambrose Matthews, died on Saturday of a complication of diseases at the home of her son, George Matthews, on Stout street. She was 66 years old. She was born near Freehold and was the daughter of Henry Knowlon. She moved to Red Bank with her parents at an early age, where she had since lived. She was married to Mr. Matthews in 1851 and nine children were born to them. The children are Mrs. Thomas Ryan of Jamesburg, Mrs. A. A. Platt of Philadelphia, Mrs. August Kaffenberger and Mrs. F. E. Platt of New York, Charles Matthews of Denver, Col., Jesse Matthews of Elizabeth, Col., and Ambrose Forman and George Matthews of Red Bank. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at two o’clock at the house. The service was conducted by Rev. Robert MacKellar. The pallbearers were William Chadwick, Garrett Bloodgood, George Ziegler and William H. Sickles. The body was buried at Fair View cemetery.
