Three Deaths In One Family
Father, Mother and Daughter Die in One Week
Three deaths occurred in one week in the family of Richard Pittenger, who lived at Georgia , in Freehold
township. The deaths were those of Richard Pittenger, his wife, Lydia Pittenger; and their daughter, Mrs.
Esther Hankins. Mr. Pittenger died of pneumonia on January 20th. He was seventy years old and had lived all his life in the neighborhood of Freehold. He was at one time an ice dealer there.
His wife was 66 years old. She died on January 13th, just one week before her husband’s death. She was sick only four days. The daughter, Mrs. Esther Hankins, was also sick only a very short time. She died January 18th, five days after her mother’s death and two days before her father died. She leaves a husband and one daughter, the latter being Mrs. Frank Pittenger of Red Bank.
Mr. and Mrs. Pittenger leave one son, Andrew Pittenger, who lived at home. This is the only remaining member of the household. Four daughters are living, they being Mrs. James Sickles of near Holmdel. Mrs. James Applegate of Jackson’s Mills and Mrs. George Clayton and Mrs. Edward Little of Brooklyn.
