Evan Jones, father of L. D. Jones of Swimming River, died at Plainfield last Thursday. He was born in Wales in 1829. Mr. Jones came to this country in 1838 and settled at Plainfield, where he was prominent in public affairs. He was a trustee of the Plainfield seminary and served two years in the city council. He opened many of the principal streets of the place and was a liberal contributor to churches and charitable institutions there.
