New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - Mrs. Mary (Hopping) Leonard

Mrs. Mary (Hopping) Leonard, widow of Thomas Leonard of Leonardville, died on Monday. She was 85 years old and had been sick for more than a week. Previous to this sickness she had enjoyed very good health. She was born at Middletown and was the daughter of Patience and James Hopping. She was married February 5th, 1840, in the Baptist church at Middletown by Rev. D. B. Stout, who was at that time pastor of the church. Four children survive her. They are James H., Thomas Henry, Edward W. and John J. Leonard, all of Atlantic Highlands. The funeral was held at eleven o’clock this morning from the First Baptist church at Atlantic Highlands, of which she was a member. The service was conducted by Rev. H. W. Hillier. The pall bearers were John Southall, William Burdge, N. H. Roberts, Mathew Brown, Edward Bowne and Joshua VanPelt.
