New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - Amzi C. McLean

Amzi C. McLean, son of the best-known men of Monmouth county (?), died at Pittsburg on Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hallock. He was a native of Ohio and came to Monmouth county at an early age. He studied law in the late Judge Peter Vredenburg’s office at Freehold. His wife was a daughter of Judge Hull of the Monmouth county court of common pleas. Mr. McLean lived at Freehold for many years. For a long time he and the late John W. Herbert of Marlboro were the leaders of the Republican party in Monmouth county. Mr. McLean was appointed prosecutor of the pleas by Governor Newell and was afterward appointed judge. His wife died several years ago. He leaves three children, Mrs. Henry S. White of Red Bank, Mrs. Hallock of Pittsburg and J. Hull McLean of Middletown township. The body will be taken to Freehold for burial.
