New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - Edward Hooper

Edward Hooper of Atlantic Highlands died on Tuesday of last week, aged 79 years. On the Friday before his
death he was stricken with paralysis while walking along the street and was found on the sidewalk in an
unconscious condition and was conveyed to his home. He was the son of Samuel Hooper and was born at what
is now Atlantic Highlands on October 16th, 1820. He inherited 100 acres of land at Atlantic Highlands
from his father, and at the time of the organization of the Atlantic Highlands association that
company bought fifty acres of land from him for $31,000. Previous to the organization of the
association Mr. Hooper was engaged in farming, but since that time he had followed no particular
occupation. He was a member of the first borough commission of Atlantic Highlands and served two
terms. At the time of his death he was one of the commissioners of appeals of the borough. He married
Miss Elizabeth Mansfield in 1884 and she survives him. He leaves no children.
