Mrs. Margaret Butler Throws a Lighted Lamp at Her Daughter

Mrs. Margaret Butler of Long Branch is in the county jail at Freehold, charged with killing her daughter Nellie. According to the story told by Mrs. Butler’s eldest daughter Margaret, Nellie and her mother got in a quarrel on Friday night. Nellie threw cups and saucers at her mother and Mrs. Butler lost her patience and threw a lighted lamp at her daughter. The lamp struck the girl full in the face. It exploded and her clothing was set on fire. She was horribly burned. She was taken to the Long Branch hospital for treatment, but her injuries were such that she died the next day.
