New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - Captain Abraham O. Curtis

Captain Abraham O. Curtis of Manasquan died on Thursday, June 22d, aged 57 years. Death was caused by kidney trouble. He had an attack of the grip last January and had been in poor health ever since. Captain Curtis was the son of Ann and Osborn Curtis and was born at Manasquan. When he was 21 years old he went to sea as a sailor. He followed this calling until eight years ago and during his life upon the sea was captain of the schooners Lauretta O. Curtis, Mary A. Tyler and Henry P. Havens. For the past two years he had been engaged in the coal business at Manasquan. He was one of the elders of the Manasquan Presbyterian church for 25 years. His wife was Miss Sarah Green of Brielle. She survives him. He also leaves six children.
