New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - Mrs. J. Brooks
|
A Suicide at Seabright
Mrs. J. Brooks of New York, a guest at the Octagon hotel at Seabright, committed suicide on Sunday morning. When the watchman of the hotel was making his rounds on Sunday morning he heard groans coming from Mrs. Brooks’s room. The door was locked and he opened it with a pass key. He found that Mrs. Brooks had taken poison and was in great agony. Dr. J. J. Reed of Seabright was telephoned for but before he reached there Mrs. Brooks had cut five deep gashes across her breast and had cut her throat, completely severing her windpipe. No cause is known for the act other than despondency. Mrs. Brooks was 27 years old. Her husband is in Europe and her parents live in New York.
