Disposition Of The Estate Of Garrett Thorne
Part of the Estate Tied Up for Three Generations
Garrett Thorne of Holmdel township who died May 24th, made his will about two months before his death. Mary E. Thorne was made executor of the will and trustee of the estate. Mr. Thorne’s wife, Harriet Thorne, was left a life interest in the homestead farm, which was also made subject to the maintenance of his daughter-in-law, Harriet Thorne, wife of his deceased son, George W. Thorne. At the death of both these women the homestead farm is to go to Mr. Thorne’s grandson, George W. Thorne, for his use during his lifetime, and at his death it is to go to the heirs of this grandson in the same proportion as it would go if this grandson died without leaving a will. All the household goods and other personal property on the homestead farm is to go to Mr. Thorne’s widow as long as she shall live and at her death it is to go to Mr. Thorne’s grandson, George W. Thorne.
Mr. Thorne’s sister, Elizabeth Rappelyea, is to have a life interest and support on the farm of 100 acres now occupied by Mr. Thorne’s son, Theodore R. Thorne; and Mr. Thorne’s wife is also left an interest in this farm. After the death of Mr. Thorne’s wife and sister, Theodore R. Thorne is to have the use of this farm as long as he shall live, and at his death it is to go to his natural heirs. Another farm of sixty acres is left to Mary E. Thorne as trustee. The income from this farm is to go to Mr. Thorne’s wife as long as she lives. All the rest of Mr. Thorne’s property is to be sold and the income from the money realized is to be paid to his wife. At her death the sixty acre farm is to be sold and the money from the sale of this farm, as well as the money from the sale of Mr. Thorne’s other effects, is to be distributed. Half of this money is to go to Theodore Thorne, and the other half is to be divided equally among the five daughters of George W. Thorne-Lizzie Lohsen, Eva Pease, Harriet Thorne, Cornelia Thorne and Eleanor Thorne.
Dora Thorne, daughter of Mr. Thorne’s dead son, Holmes Thorne, gets a bequest of $5.
The witnesses to the will were Benjamin B. Ogden and Garrett S. Jones of Keyport.
