New Jersey Wills - 1899 - Elisha Lewis

Elisha Lewis of Howell township made his will in1893. He left no near relatives, and he had made his home with Jonathan Hulse. He provided for placing a headstone over his grave and over the grave of his wife, and then left all his property to Jonathan Hulse. This bequest was made with the proviso that Jonathan Hulse give him a home as long as he should live. In case Mr. Lewis had not made his home with Jonathan Hulse at the time of his death, then, the will says, “this bequest to him shall be void; and I direct and desire that it shall go to the person with whom I make my home at the time of my death. I do this in order that the person who provides for me during my last days and sickness may be remunerated therefor.” Mr. Hulse, however, gave a home to Mr. Lewis up to the time of the latter’s death last November, and he will accordingly get the property. Charles H. Butcher was made executor of the will and the witnesses were William R. Craig and Wm. H. Carson.
