New Jersey Wills - 1899 - Newbury Havens

Suit Over An Estate

Children of Newbury Havens Suing for His Property

Newbury Havens of North Long Branch died a few weeks ago, leaving no will. Mrs. James Walsh of Red Bank, only daughter of Havens by his first wife, applied to the court for letters of administration and they were granted to her. Havens was twice married and his children by his second wife have secured an order restraining Mrs. Walsh from administering the affairs of the estate. Mrs. Walsh bases her claim on the grounds that Havens was married to his second wife without securing a divorce from his first wife and that she is therefore the only legal heir to the estate. Havens was married to his first wife in 1849 and to his second wife in 1861. Testimony in the case was taken at Manasquan last Wednesday and the matter will come before the court for final disposition some day this week.
