New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - Mrs. Charlotte (Petit) Shoemaker

Mrs. Charlotte Shoemaker of Philadelphia died last Friday, aged 85 years. Her death was due to old age and general debility. She was born at Philadelphia. He maiden name was Petit. She married Benjamin A. Shoemaker of Philadelphia and they moved to Long Branch about forty years ago. Mr. Shoemaker built the United States hotel at Long Branch and conducted it until his death in 1867.
Mrs. Shoemaker was the last member of a large family. She leaves six children, three daughters and three sons. They are Mrs. John V. Holmes of Shrewsbury, Mrs. Emma F. Grundy and Mrs. Anna P. Ellis of Philadelphia, Henry Clay Shoemaker and Benjamin Franklin Shoemaker of Point Pleasant and George Appleton Shoemaker of Bristol, Pennsylvania. She leaves also nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ellis of Philadelphia, with whom she made her home.
Per the Death Notice Mrs. Shoemaker was aged 85 years and 7 months.
