New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - Rev. James T. Rex

Rev. James T. Rex, pastor of the Long Branch A. M. E. church, died of a complication of diseases on Sunday, September 24th aged sixty years. He had been in poor health for several months. Mr. Rex was born in Maryland and was educated at Lincoln university. He was at one time pastor at Fair Haven and it was through his efforts that Fisk chapel at that place was built. A memorial service in his honor was held in Fisk chapel Sunday night . Rev. J.H. Christmas preached the sermon. Mr. Rex had also filled pastorates at Atlantic City, Woodbury, South Woodbury, Newark and Orange. He was a member of the Grand Army. Mr. Rex leaves a widow and one son. Mr. Rex's successor as pastor has not yet been appointed.
