A Keyport Man Drowned

William Cranshaw Falls Overboard at Lorillard's

William Cranshaw, a Keyport colored man, was drowned in the bay at Lorillard's brick yard on Tuesday of last week. He was loading brick on a schooner at the end of the pier when he lost his balance and fell overboard. A fellow workman reached a pole to him as he came to the surface, but he failed to grasp it and he sank. The body was got out of the water with a boat hook.

Cranshaw was 36 years old. He leaves a wife and six small chidren (sic). His life was insured for $500 in the True Reformers lodge and for $125 in the Union Working Fountain lodge. He also leaves a house and lot free from debt. He built his house with money borrowed from the Keyport building and loan association and this debt was paid off on the day of his death.
