Search this site by Keyword / Surname:

Mrs. Sophia Fields Weede Wood, wife of Joseph Wood of Front street, died on Saturday afternoon. She was 78 years old. Death was due to old age. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at half-past one o'clock at the house and the service was conducted by Rev. E. C. Hancock and Rev. E. C. Hill. The body was buried in Evergreen cemetery at Rumson.

Mrs. Wood was an active member of the Methodist church. She was also a member of the ladies' aid society, the women's temperance society and the Christian Endeavor society. These societies were present at the funeral. The floral contributions were very fine and it required a special coach to take them to the cemetery.

Mrs. Wood was born in New York and was the daughter of Seaman Allaire. She was married twice. Her first husband was John W. Weede of New York. He died about 38 years ago. About 28 years ago she moved to Red Bank and ten years later she married Mr. Wood. They began housekeeping in Mr. Wood's house on Front street, and this has been her home ever since.
