New Jersey Obituaries - 1900 - James Applegate
|
James Applegate of Locust Point died last Friday of tumors of the stomach, aged 74 years. About a year ago Mr. Appplegate had a tumor removed from his leg at the Long Branch hospital. The tumors then spread to his stomach and about six weeks ago he was taken to his bed, from which he did not again arise.
Mr. Applegate was born at South Amboy. When he was ten years old he was bound out to the late Lloyd Hendrickson of Middletown, for whom he worked until several years after he became of age. About forty years ago he moved to Navesink to work for Joseph G. Mount. He worked for Mr. Mount eleven years and for several years afterward he worked at odd jobs around Navesink and Locust Point. For the past eight years he had worked for A. H. Randell of Locust Point. Mr. Applegate married Letitia Sherman of Middletown, who survives him. He leaves also two children, J. Conover Applegate of Navesink and Mrs. Frank R. Ewing, who is spending the winter with her husband in the South. Mr. Applegate was insured for about $70 in the Prudential insurance company.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at All Saints' church at Locust Point. Rev. J. C. Lord had charge of the service. The body was buried in Fair View cemetery.
