Miss Harriet A. Vail, daughter of Mrs. N. C. Nobles of Atlantic Highlands, died on Sunday of
hemorrhage of the stomach, aged 51 years. She was first taken with hemorrhages three years
ago and had not been well since, although at times she was able to be out. Seven weeks ago
she took to her bed and gradually failed until her death. The funeral will be held at the
Atlantic Highlands Methodist church to-morrow afternoon at half-past one o’clock. The service
will be conducted by Rev. Samuel Sargent assisted by Rev. Robert Emery. The body will be

Miss Vail was born at Newark and her early life was spent at that place. In 1881 she
moved to Atlantic Highlands, her step-father, Rev. J. C. Nobles, being interested in
the development of that place. Miss Vail joined St. Paul’s church at Newark when she
was twelve years old and since that time had been constantly engaged in active church
work. She was secretary of the Women’s temperance union and of the ladies’ aid
society of the Methodist church, a teacher in the Methodist Sunday-school and was
foremost in the work of the young women’s temperance union until the disbandment of
that society a few years ago. She possessed many excellent traits of character that
endeared her to a large circle of friends. Besides a mother, she leaves one sister,
Mrs. Edgar R. Mills, who is well-known at Atlantic Highlands.
Per the death notice Miss Vail was 52 years of age
