Luke W. Stoddard died of heart disease at Matawan on Sunday, aged about fifty years. Mr. Stoddard was taken sick the day previous to his death while attending a shooting match of the Midway gun club. He went home and grew rapidly worse, and on Sunday he died. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. Stoddard was born in the southern part of New Jersey. When he was a young man he went to work for the Central railroad company as a fireman. A few years later he was made an engineer and served in this capacity until a few years ago, when he retired from railroading and opened a hotel opposite the Matawan station, which he still conducted at the time of his death. Mr. Stoddard was a great sportsman and took part in most of the important shooting matches in this part of the state. A widow survives him but he leaves no children.
