New Jersey Obituaries - 1900 - Lewis B. Brown

Search this site by Keyword / Surname:

Lewis B. Brown, the pioneer summer resident of Elberon, died on Thursday of general debility, aged 86 years.

Mr. Brown was born at Woodbridge, N. J. When he was 21 years old he went to New York and engaged in business. In 1863 he bought a large tract of land a little south of Long Branch, known as the Woolley farm. This tract of land is now known as Elberon, the most fashionable part of Long Branch. The place took its name from the first two initials of Mr. Brown’s name and a contraction of his last name. The old homestead that was on the farm when Mr. Brown bought it was occupied by him each summer until his death. The house had been improved somewhat but its originality had been preserved. Mrs. Brown died about a year ago. Four children survive Mr. Brown.
