New Jersey Obituaries - 1900 - Rev. Foronda Bestor
|
Rev. Foronda Bestor, One of Red Bank’s Oldest Residents, Dies at the Home of His Daughter.
Rev. Foronda Bestor died of heart disease last Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles D. Warner of Shrewsbury avenue. He was 93 years old in May. He retained his mental faculties to a remarkable degree and frequently described with minuteness important events which occurred in the early part of his life. Mr. Bestor was for many years pastor of several Baptist churches in Massachusetts and Connecticut. He was a preacher of considerable note. Among the many persons who he baptized were Prof. Richard Case, formerly superintendent of the Red Bank public schools; and Mrs. Ellen Pease of Red Bank. Mr. Bestor married Miss Abbie Hartshorne of Hartford, Connecticut. They celebrated their golden wedding on April 14th, 1879 at their home at Hartford, where Mrs. Bestor died in September, 1887.
The funeral was held last Friday night at Mrs. Warner’s and was conducted by Rev. William B. Matteson. The body was taken to Hartford, where a service was held on Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. George M. Stone. Rev. Mr. Stone also officiated at Mrs. Bestor’s funeral and at the funeral of S. J. Bestor, their only son. There were many handsome floral offerings, among them being a basket of roses picked from a bush over 100 years old.
